Apple *have* patented the look of icons: http://www.edibleapple.com/apple-granted-eu-patents-on-24-ios-icon-designs/ and Samsung clearly infringes on them.

I wish apple would just hurry up and get the MBP upgraded i need one within the next 4/5 weeks before uni starts!! an with regards to redesign im all for it aslong as they dont put an integrated keyboard in like the MB cos its rubbish!!

I think you hit it right on the head, you got the same idea that I was thinking.

Windows CE isn't designed for a general computing environment, either, and makes too many compromises. I also think the Nokia 770 is too small, the PepperPad is overwhelmed by its case, and the Audrey isn't flexible enough.
A successor to the Newton that was a true OS X device, in a form factor similar to the Sony Reader, with .Mac synchronization, Airport Extreme and Bluetooth, a FireWire 400 and two USB 2 connectors, a mini-HMDI socket (with HDMI and DVI converters), a dock connector, an iSight, and an optical-capable audio plug, with some of the on-screen navigation tech we've seen in Apple patents, would be fantastic.
But I'd be surprised if the tech is there yet: the processors aren't small enough and cool enough, the flash memory (you'd want flash and not a hard disk drive) doesn't have enough capacity yet, and the batteries don't have a long enough life. I'm excepting the new OS X preview, new Mac Pros and maybe updated MacBook Pros.
That's it...after all, it is just a Developers Conference, not a Mac World Expo...I think the focus will stay on the software and the tools pros are most likely to use.

Exactly...a 12 incher with Core 2 Duo, backlit keyboard and a reasonable GPU is all I need...nothing really fancy.
That would be nice, but it seems unlikely. Apple seem to consider the black MacBook the small "professional" laptop. Maybe it'll get a descrete GPU though, that would be pretty good, no?

As for the camera discussion... No one has thought that maybe they would make it an option, like glossy / no glossy on the mac book. When you add to cart camera would be defult (as in the apple stores) and then a drop down menu would allow you to take it off

The lack of a fresh new look will keep me away, especially retaining the tiny screen. Seems like Apples coasting this time around.
A faster processor? Big deal, who needs it, a waste of money just to pump up Apples coffers.
A true disappointment, this one is. I was so eager to dump my antennagate special.
This model hasn't promised anything yet because no one but Apple knows what's in store. I don't see any cosmetic changes in store, and the iPhone 4 still looks better than every handset out to date. However don't count your chickens before they hatch!

5 people I know have had shattered glass (on either the front or the back) of their iPhone 4s less than year into ownership. It's a bloody phone -- it's not a museum piece or collectible. It's going to get used, it's going to get dropped or fall off a table occasionally, and it needs to be at least minimally able to survive a 2 year contract.

It would be cool for them to keep the yonah in the low-end MacBook. That way with the price drop they could get back to a $999 entry-level notebook.

They are not going to keep putting Yonah in anything. Merom cost them the same money. No incentive to keep putting 32-bit processors in anything any longer than they must because the future is Leopard and Leopard is all about full 64-bit support.
MacBook Pro is very likely redesigned for Merom including that easy HD swap out capability that's already in the MacBook Pro Jr. - I mean MacBook. :eek: :D

Apple needs to respond. I would prefer them to do it with an iOS overhaul and some diversification of their product line. Apple won't sacrifice margins significantly, so to expand market share they should appeal to more people and step up advertising on the cheaper previous-gen models.
Apple can't, it would wreck havoc on their margins. A cheaper phone isn't just one that you pay $50 for and then end up with the same contract as the regular one. It's a cheap phone that you can buy without a contract.
And they would also lose the people, and there are lots here, just in this thread, who talk about exclusivity and being part of a club that not everyone can join.
Ferrari doesn't make cheap cars for everyone. But while most people would rather like to drive a Ferrari than a Toyota, most people would prefer to own Toyota. They make more money even if their cars aren't as exclusive. (Also, Ferrari is now owned by Fiat.)

From what you wrote in the rules, the healing treasure could be awhile.
I think whoever understands this game the best (e.g., DP) should make our first decision. We can evaluate it after and learn from it. We�re obviously learning in this game. BTW, my fav video games are the leveling types with HP/AP (don�t have XP in this one). We could do a lot with this format if it�s successful

However, ati does list the 6990 as having a maximum display resolution of 2650 x 1600 per display though it can handle up to 6 displays. There will have to be a change somewhere. (Though you could probably write a program that would allow this resolution). That is still going to max out thunderbolt so you would not be able to drive one of those displays at native with a macbook pro.
Pretty sure again that the limitation is purely a "spec sheet" limitation given that is the max current LCDs do. My GF's miniDVI Macbook has a maximum "spec sheet" resolution of 1920x1200 yet she's plugged into a Dell SP2343W with a native resolution 2048x1156 with no problem. That resolution doesn't even show up on the "spec sheet" but it works fine in practice.

Apple aren't the only company who see the benefits of a closed system, right or wrong most other phone/console devices have some system in place to stop the user from having total access to it, even Android phones can be closed systems when the phone carrier/handset maker makes it so.
I do agree with having the makers of the software and hardware putting these systems in place, but I also think that the user (if they are smart enough) should be allowed to hack/jailbreak or whatever without fear of reprisals. But as I said earlier, if you do hack/jailbreak one of these closed systems and you brick your device it should be on your head

sorry guys but on closer review of the pictures, it does look like the adhesive disk is mounted on the dash and the dock to the disk.
