What uncanny timing-- a couple of days after Intel comes out with their 3D chip thing, sending ARM's share price tumbling to artificially affordable prices, this rumour comes out which, if widely accepted, would boost ARM's share price greatly. Someone could potentially make a lot of money out of this. Especially as Semiaccurate's sources are anonymous, I reckon this rumour should be treated with great scepticism.

I think the next Mac Pro refresh will be a huge milestone. Not only will it be the first case redesign in nearly a decade and add all the latest tech (USB3, sata III, thunderbolt, etc) but I believe Apple will take this opportunity to finally revise the pricing structure. Over the past few years, Apple has been making a clear shift towards the consumer market. Part of that is arguably negative ("dumbing things down") but the positive is more reasonable prices. The Mac Pro is the only computer left that hasn't been revised. My hope is that Apple will create a few models of the new Mac Pro, at least one of which is an affordable mid-range consumer tower starting under the the $2,000 mark.

Unfortunately, they will probably wait to use the new performance desktop/server sandy bridge CPUs which Intel won't have ready until Q4 2011 (or later). If that's true then we won't see these new beauties until 1H 2012. :(

Many other examples of the same thoughtthough not as eloquent or quotableantedate even this.

the only real fiasco they've had was that whole ipod video thing in march

Looks like Apple made them get rid of all the pictures fake or not.

does anyone else notice that on intels site, the core2 duo is only refered to in PC's????

    Commercial:
    "I'm a Mac," cool guy.
"And I'm a PC," dorky guy.
"And I'm a PC too." cool guy

    http://www.apple.com/getamac/ It's the Touch one.

You now have to start making distiction between PC meaning running Windows and PC meaning personal computer meaning for personal use. I believe the Apple II was the first to call itself a personal computers.

I dont understand why some people say the mac pro is for pro users only?when i wanted to buy a Mac i brought a Mac Pro because i didnt like the IMac because of the glossy screen and the way it is all in one unit if the screen packs up then bye bye mac, then i thought of the Mac Mini, that was a no because it doesnt have enough power...

Then i dont understand why some people have to say the mac pro is a old design ok so the out side hasnt changed much maybe a few things like an extra optical drive and different ports, but the inside has changed a lot compared to the older mac pros much more cleaner than befour...

I think it would be a shame to completely changed the design of the Mac Pro as it still is far much better than any PC design i have ever seen, maybe make the air holes smaller but thats all,i think the Mac Pro design still has a lot of life in it........I am not a pro user........

Why am I not surprised there?

    OK. Call me naive; but it seems the privacy war was lost a long time ago... there is apparently much money to be made by reenacting the battle;

consider the logistics of tracking, storing, and sorting through, what is it 120 million, consolidated.db files. Why. Yes, we are talking about small computer files that may just take minutes to sort through, but who cares what I do? I can assure you that in the grand scheme of things my life is meaningless and so are my consolidated.db files...

Alright, I was planning on getting the 2.0 ghzMacbook W/ 1 gig of ram from the apple education store (canada) for 1460 Canadian. However, I was going to get it before the Nano promotion was up, and therefore, could sell the nano and make back about 260 (or so) Canadian. Is it worth it to wait for Merom, and not make back the 260? What are the benefits of Merom?

    Basically, is it worth $260?

    EDIT: 2 questions:

    1. I think the nano promotion is up September 16. Will they probably be announced before then?
    2. If the promotion is up, is it worth the $260?

    Thanks.

This may be veering in a direction the OP does not want to go. If so, please ignore.

Speaking of taxes don't believe any politician who seeks your approval by saying "elect me and I'll lower your taxes". Most likely what they are saying is I'll lower your taxes a smidgen, but I'll give a dump truck of tax breaks to the wealthy who as leaders of industry will do their best to destroy your lively hood by exporting your job overseas.

What you want to hear from politicians on taxes is a discussion framed as "what services do we want from government, what do we want to pay for, how and who will pay for it, and expectation that the government will penalize corporations whose business practices are actively lowering the standard of living in this country."

The Apple iPhone would have to be better in functionality than a Blackberry to be considered useful, unless they can work out a better input device method or utilize Microsoft's Vista speech recognition program.

Riiiiight...Apple is going to utilize Microsoft's speech recognition...

And why "better than Blackberry"? The Blackberry is practically the perfect corporate phone...the iPhone will probably not compete in that market.

I, for one, am glad there wasn't an update to the MacBook Pro.

As for the Mac Pro, I am really impressed with everything except the video card. I haven't got the means to get one anytime soon since I just bought my MBP, but it's a great machine. The internals are really great looking.

yes there is a problem. because it's unencrypted and everyone with access to your phone can read the information. the software tool they published showed my travel of the last 6 month quite accurately.

I don't want someone picking up my phone from my desk at work and find out what trips to what company I did. (it works internationally btw)

also I don't think the IRS or other tax collection agencies need to know when I was where.:D

Fair enough, but hardly the same as Apple acting as big brother (not that you made that claim).

Big deal. I use two platforms (Mac OS X and iOS) that aren't dominating the market, yet I feel that both have the superior user experience and the superior software. As long as both keep providing those two things, I'll be a happy customer.

LOL WUT? You're honestly going to count emulated games (pirated in almost all cases) as Android games?

    Wow.

Why wouldn't you count those as games? They are available for Android. They are not available on iOs.

haha...i doubt it though, iPad 2 just came out. I think hardware is pretty solid, it should run iOS 5 without any problems

iOS was last announced in April which was slightly later than the year before. I don't see it jumping from April to June for an announcement. It also won't be so heavily cloud based - it's simply wishful thinking.
